Studies have shown that drug courts are most cost effective when they target high risk offenders who are least likely to succeed on traditional probation. This is because the drug court is a high intensive intervention. Before acceptance into the drug court, the offender will undergo various assessments which will include:
- ORAS (Ohio Risk Assessment System), administered by the Marion County Adult Probation Dept.
- A pre-screening drug assessment (SASSI) completed by the FIRST Court probation officer.
- An alcohol and drug assessment completed by a licensed chemical dependency counselor.
