Floodplain Information

Marion County participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Our office is the local flood plain map repository as well as the floodplain adminstrator for the county.

Did You Know?

Most Homeowners policies do not cover flood damage. The purchase of flood insurance is mandatory, under federal law, for all federal or federally related loans when purchasing or constructing a new building in the Special Flood Hazard area (SFHA). Even if you are not in a high-risk area, your lender my still require that you carry flood insurance

Construction Within a Floodplain

Construction within a regulated floodplain requires a permit. You must obtain a permit prior to any new construction, existing building expansion, clearing land, placing fill, grading land or any other changes to property located within the Special Flood Hazard Area. This permit may be obtained in our office.
