Ohio Concealed Carry Handgun Licenses, renewals, replacements, or emergency CHLs are performed and issued at the Marion County Sheriff’s office, located at 100 Executive Dr., Marion, Ohio 43302.

Walk-ins are now being accepted, you no longer need to make an appointment.

Fees for each license type are listed below and MUST be paid by check, money order, or exact cash.

Concealed Carry Handgun License

  • $67 – Ohio citizen for 5 or more years
  • $77 – Ohio citizen for less than 5 years

What to bring with you:

  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License or State ID
  • Completed application – Online at the Ohio Attorney General’s website (Click on Forms) or at the Marion County Sheriff’s Office
  • A color photo (wallet size) needs to be attached to application
  • Original NRA or approved training certificate of 8 hours of CHL training
  • VETERANS: bring copy of proof of Honorable Discharge & DD214 showing firearms proficiency to get fee and training exemptions.

CHL Renewal

  • $50 – Ohio citizen for 5 or more years
  • $60 – Ohio citizen for less than 5 years

What to bring with you:

  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License or State ID
  • Current Ohio CHL
  • Completed application – Online at the Ohio Attorney General’s website (Click on Forms) or at the Marion County Sheriff’s Office

Replacement License

■ If a CHL is lost or destroyed a duplicate can be created for a $15 fee

Emergency CHL

Emergency CHLs can only be issued to those who have a documented need AND are legally able to get the license with the training.

Emergency licenses are temporary and only valid for 90 days and are non-renewable.

  • $37, plus cost of FBI background check if you have been an Ohio citizen for less than 5 years

  • Documentation as to why your life is in danger (copy of CPO, TPO, or police reports)
