The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the position of deputy sheriff. There are currently vacancies for full time deputy sheriff, contract (part-time) deputy sheriff and auxiliary deputy sheriff.

Applications can be picked up at the Marion County Sheriff’s Office or downloaded from the sheriff’s office website’s home page under the tab “Employment”.

Applicants must be 21 years old at the time of employment, have a high school diploma or equivalency and possess an active OPOTA Ohio peace officer certificate. Applicants must pass a stringent background check, physical and drug screen. Starting salary for full time deputy is $19.91 an hour and $19.00 for contract deputy sheriffs. Contract deputy sheriffs must be willing to work a variety of hours (up to 28 hours a week) including some nights and weekends. Contract deputy sheriffs are tasked with security for the probation department and also transporting prisoners to court and halfway houses. Contract deputy sheriffs also patrol the five villages that contract with the sheriff’s office for extra policing.

Applications for full time and contract deputy sheriff will be accepted until February 2nd, 2017 for this round of hiring. Auxiliary deputies are volunteers and applications are accepted all year long for the auxiliary unit.
