The Marion County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post is a Chapter of the Boys Scouts of America and is designed for youth 14-21 years of age. The program has been in existence since 1974 and currently has 10 members and 4 Explorer advisors who are volunteers of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. As a law enforcement explorer, they learn such things as fingerprinting, traffic control, investigation, public relations, as well as basic law enforcement functions.

To join the Explorer program, applicants must complete an application and maintain a “C” average in school. You must not have a criminal record. There is an annual fee of $20.00, and a one time fee of $50.00 upon being accepted into the program. The group meets 1-2 times monthly for training, and every two years attends a national conference where they compete in areas of conducting white collar crime, domestic violence, traffic stops, traffic crashes, arrests and searches, shoot/don’t shoot, and crime scene searches.
